Discover Arusha National Park, A Hidden Jewel Of Tanzania

Sometimes the best adventures are hidden in plain sight. Many people focus on the big national parks like Serengeti when planning their Tanzania Safari Trips. However, a small distance away is a gem called Arusha National Park. This hidden gem is composed of incredible biodiversity and volcanic craters. It’s a park full of wildlife, including endangered species like the colobus monkey.

The Arusha National Park can provide a complete experience of what an African Safari Tanzania could be. You can get to see a stunning variety of landscapes and animals in just a single day. This park proves that you do not need large plains for a great experience.

A trip to Arusha National Park is a perfect start or add-on adventure to any Tanzania Safari Tours. Our team at African Scenic Safaris has had extensive firsthand experience in guiding tours here for 16 years. They know the best paths and nice spots to view animals. Let us uncover why Arusha is perfect for all types of visitors.

Arusha National Park At A Glance

Arusha National Park is found beneath Mount Meru and covers over 137 square kilometers. It is very close to Arusha City and one of the easiest parks to reach. The park is packed with an amazing diversity of animal species and vegetation despite being small. That makes it be called a hidden jewel.

Arusha National Park
Arusha National Park

The park’s landscape is covered with:

  • Montane forest: the forest contains thick and green woods that feel ancient and alive. The forest is an important water catchment in the park.
  • Alkaline lakes: underground streams in the park feed the Momella-Seen Lake. This lake is made up of seven shallow lakes. The Momella lakes include Tulusia, Lekandiro, Rishateni, Kusare, El Kekhotoito, small Momella, and big Momella.
  • Volcanic craters: just like the Ngorongoro Crater, the Ngurdoto Crater in the park is home to several wild animal species.

Few places offer this much variety in a single day

Wildlife And Unique Experiences

The park has unique wildlife despite not having all of the Big Five. Arusha National Park has black and white colobus monkeys. The park hosts these monkey species as part of its endangered wildlife. They have long white tails and are fun to watch as they jump through trees.

Guests can regularly see:

  • Giraffes feeding on trees
  • Large groups of buffalo
  • Thousands of pink flamingoes on the Momella lakes
  • Rare species like bushbucks
  • Over 400 identified bird species.

One happy traveler shared a highlight of Safari Tanzania:

“We were thrilled to see giraffes walking near the lakes”

While the experience at Arusha National Park is unique, the park gives a wonderful contrast to other parks like Serengeti and Tarangire. You can read more on our Serengeti and Tarangire Blogs to have a detailed comparison of the parks.

Must-Visit Attractions Inside The Park

The park has some very special places, and each gives a different experience. These are some of the must-visit attractions we recommend.

Arusha National Park

  • The Momella lakes – You can take a calm canoe safari and have an opportunity to view the flamingos at a close distance.
  • Ngurdoto Crater – This deep volcanic caldera has a swampy floor attracting a lot of wild animals. There are no game drives into the crater, but guests can have spectacular views from the top. People call it “Little Ngorongoro”.
  • Mount Meru trails – Mount Meru is the second-highest mountain in Tanzania. The slopes of the mountain are well protected. Guests can trek at the base of the mountain and enjoy views of Mount Kilimanjaro.

The best views of Kilimanjaro are often from the Meru’s slopes”

TANAPA instructs that an armed park ranger should be there when hiking. For more hiking data and safety guidelines, please visit: https://www.br.tzembassy.go.tz/uploads/documents/COVID_2020-_TANAPA.pdf

Activities Beyond Game Drives

Arusha National Park is one of the best places in Tanzania to do activities apart from game drives. This makes it a perfect choice for an Arusha Safari. The good thing is that the park offers more than just game drives.

Discover Tree-Climbing Lions And Scenic Views On Lake Manyara Safaris

Think of an out-of-the-ordinary Tanzania Safaris and Tours where you get to see lions resting high in the branches of acacia trees. This is not a dream; this is Lake Manyara National Park, one of Tanzania’s most surprising and beautiful places.

Lake Manyara National Park is a hidden gem found at the base of the Great Rift Valley’s cliffs. Within its 330 square kilometers, several worlds are gathered in this small park. Its underground springs sustain the dense, green forests.

This blog will show you why Lake Manyara deserves your time. We will talk about its famous tree-climbing lions, incredible birdlife, and lush landscapes. We will also give you tips to plan your perfect Lake Manyara Safari.

For 16 years, African Scenic Safaris has been guiding travelers through the Lake Manyara National Park Tour. Our expert guides know its secrets and where to find its most amazing sights that define a truly great Safari Tanzania. One of our guests was astonished by the sight of tree-climbing lions.

Lake Manyara National Park Map

From the famous crossing of the Mara in Northern Serengeti, to a lion kill, to a lion ambush (what an incredible nerve-wrecking show!), to tree climbing lions in Tarangire, to four leopards, including one that climbed down a tree.

Why Lake Manyara Stands Out

Even though Lake Manyara is smaller compared to the Serengeti and Ngorongoro Crater, its variety sets it apart. Lake Manyara offers a Tanzania Safari Tour experience that is detailed, personal, and wonderfully diverse. It’s a park that proves that the best treasures often come in smaller packages.

Lake Manyara National Park
Lake Manyara National Park

The escarpment of the Great Rift Valley dominates the landscape of the park. This wall of rock forms the park’s western border, providing a stunning backdrop everywhere you look. The cliff base spills a groundwater forest that remains evergreen year-round; the forest is sustained by underground springs.

“Manyara’s forests hold surprises at every turn.”

Beyond the forest lie the open floodplains, which transform into a shallow soda lake during the wet season. Some springs produce water hot enough to boil an egg. This incredible arrangement of the park’s features offers a sample platter of East African ecosystems.

Lake Manyara Wildlife

This mix of habitats in the park creates a mix of Lake Manyara Wildlife. When it is hot, the park’s lions climb trees and observe prey grazing in the savannah plains. Apart from the famous tree-climbing lions, Lake Manyara Safaris expose tourists to other unique wildlife in the park. Some of the impressive wildlife in the Lake Manyara National Park include:

  • Elephants: large tusked elephants move silently through the dense forests in the park. They move in big herds to search for water and pasture.
  • Baboons: The park is also famous for its massive troops of olive baboons. As many as 150 baboons in a troop endlessly provide entertainment along the roadsides.
  • Flamingos: The shores of Lake Manyara are a good spot to view flamingos. They feed on algae found in the lake water. The best time to see flamingos is during the wet season. Besides flamingos, the park has over 350 identified species of birds.

Are you ready to experience this incredible diversity for yourself? Explore our thoughtfully crafted Tanzania Safari Packages that seamlessly include this unforgettable experience.

Best Time & Ways To Experience The Lake Manyara Glamour

Each season in Lake Manyara paints the park with a different brush. Choosing wisely when to visit can shape your Tanzania Safari experience. Planning your perfect trip starts with understanding the Best Time to Visit Lake Manyara as per your interests.

  • The Dry Season (June – October): This is considered the prime time for classic game drive viewing. Water sources are normally dry during this time; animals move to look for permanent water sources in the park. The thinned vegetation offers clearer sightlines, making it easy to spot wildlife.
Lake Manyara National Park
Lake Manyara National Park

This is the best time to view large mammals such as elephants, buffalo, and giraffes in large numbers.

  • The Wet Season (November – May): The park gets transformed into a green paradise during this season. It is during this time that migratory birds from Europe and Northern Africa arrive in the park. This is the perfect time for bird lovers to visit. The dramatic skies, green landscapes, and intimate wildlife encounters provide perfect photography opportunities.

Seeing all sorts of birds, baby elephants with their parents, a group of zebras, flamingos, hippos, including a hyena dragging a wildebeest carcass.

The duration of your stay in the park is just as important as when to visit. Lake Manyara National Park Tours offer a variety of ways to connect with the park’s wilderness.

  • Day Trips: Travelers can enjoy wonderful experiences of the park in just a day trip, and moreover, it is suitable for those who have limited time.
  • Overnight stays: This is our recommended duration of stay. Staying overnight allows you to experience night game drives and an early morning game drive.
  • Combo tours: Our Lake Manyara Safari Packages include pairing Lake Manyara trip with other parks. You can pair it with Tarangire or Ngorongoro to have an unforgettable Safari Tanzania.

Opening times and Entry fees

The Lake Manyara National Park opens at 6 am and closes at 6 pm. For more current information on operational hours, regulations, and entry fees, we always recommend checking the Lake Manyara National Park information.

Lake Manyara National Park’s Legendary Tree-Climbing Lions

The sight of tree-climbing lions is what guests hope for in their Safari Tours Tanzania. It’s because lions in other places occasionally climb trees, but the lions in Lake Manyara are habitual tree climbers.

Lake Manyara Tree Climbing Lions
Lake Manyara Tree Climbing Lions

Why do they climb trees?

After years of observation, researchers and guides developed several theories that explain this unique behavior of lions.

  • Escape from heat: when the ground gets hotter, the lions climb up trees to catch a cool breeze. This normally happens during the afternoon,
  • Relief from pests: they climb trees to escape the constant annoyance of flies roaming around dead animals and tsetse flies.
  • Look out for prey: sitting on tree branches gives lions a good view of potential prey like buffaloes, wildebeests and zebras.

The best time to see lions climbing trees is during the hotter parts of the day. They are not in every tree, but in specific large-branched acacia and sausage trees. One of our guides’ comments on tree-climbing lions: “We know the trees they love most.”

Scenic Highlights & Activities For Lake Manyara Safaris

To solely focus on lions would be a waste of Lake Manyara National Park Tours. The park offers enchanting experiences and activities that can be done on your safari.

  • The Alkaline lake: at the center of the park is a soda lake that covers about two-thirds of the park. Its size changes with the season, and it is a habitat for many water birds.
  • The Flamingos: the Lake Manyara spectacle of flamingos is world-famous. The most famous residents of the lake are the lesser flamingos.
Lake Manyara National Park
Lake Manyara National Park

A true Safari Tanzania experience is more than just viewing wildlife from a vehicle. Lake Manyara’s surrounding areas offer opportunities to connect to nature and culture through these activities:

  • Guided forest walks: Walking safaris are not permitted inside the park, but areas outside the boundaries are allowed. You will be led by a knowledgeable guide, and you will learn to identify animal tracks.
  • Night game drives: night drives reveal the hidden world of the park. Using specialized spotlights will help you spot wildlife in this dark hour. These drives provide the best chances of seeing nocturnal animals.
  • Cultural visits: guests can visit the multicultural village of Mto Wa Mbu. They can get a glimpse of Tanzania’s local life by taking guided walks in the market and seeing traditional woodcarvings.

These visits are important because the tourism revenue can be used to impact the community and encourage conservation. The Cultural Tourism Programme Tanzania supports such initiatives and ensures that they’re beneficial and respectful.

We learned so much about nature, the animals and, last but not least, the people in this part in Tanzania.

Get Into The Crater With The Ngorongoro Safari Tours

In the heart of Tanzania, the Ngorongoro Conservation Area descends to the largest unfilled and intact volcanic caldera in the world, the Ngorongoro Crater. It was made to be a UNESCO World Heritage Site because of its global conservation of biodiversity and its linkage to discoveries of human evolution. It is also considered the eighth wonder of the world.

For over a decade, African Scenic Safaris has mastered the art of guiding Tanzania Safari Tours in the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. As a Travelife-certified and KPAP-registered operator, we ensure that we align with UNESCO’s conservation goals for the crater.  We provide all the in-depth information guests would love to know about the Ngorongoro Crater.

One of our guests described their first glimpse of the crater rim as a moment that left them in awe. Seeing three of the Big Five in just a two-and-a-half-hour walk surprised them.

“…. we were surprised to see elephant, giraffe and a leopard(!) as we walked the rim…”

KarenB, London UK, from Tripadvisor.

The Ngorongoro Crater Safari will give you an opportunity to see the predators hunting in broad daylight, flamingos painting the lakes pink, and the cultural heritage. This guide will give you the complete look and practical tips for making the most of your Tanzania Safari Trip.

Why Is Ngorongoro The “Garden Of Eden”?

More than 2 million years ago, volcanic activity created the Ngorongoro Crater. A caldera covering over 100 square miles was formed when the volcano erupted and then collapsed, descending to a depth of 610 meters.

Ngorongoro Safari Packages
Ngorongoro Safari Packages

The topography and the soil fertility of the crater cause it to have a diversity of vegetation. Grasslands, high moorland, and evergreen highland forests cover the steep slopes of the crater. Open short grass plains, acacia woodland, and water lakes cover the crater basin. These guarantee the survival of wildlife living in the crater.

The Ngongoro Crater is often described as a “Garden of Eden” because of its stunning biodiversity and evidence of the remains of the earliest man. The crater contains over 25,000 large animals and over 500 bird species; spotting the “Big Five “in a single day is possible. Visitors can also witness the Great Migration from the crater.

Other features found in the crater are Lake Magadi and the Lerai forest. Lake Magadi’s water is 80% soda; it sits in the southwest part of the crater and is home to a lot of flamingos. Acacia and yellow fever trees cover the Lerai Forest.

“Every turn in the crater shows a new world.”

African Scenic Safaris tailors Tanzania Safari Packages that can allow you to experience the essence of the crater’s beauty as per your budget. Both luxury and minimum budget safaris are designed in a way that does not discredit the actual aim of your Tanzania Safari Trip.

Wildlife Encounters In The Crater

Most of the animals in the Ngorongoro Crater hardly leave the crater due to its steep nature. The crater’s high concentrations of wild animals, including endangered species like rhinos and elephants, guarantee the Big Five sightings.

Due to strict steps on protecting endangered species, guests have to travel a bit of distance to see rhinos. They are mostly spotted around the Gorigor swamps. On the other hand, elephants move constantly in search of food and water, making it easy to spot them.  Elephants live in the forests of Lerai and eat the acacia trees that grow there.

“Seeing rhinos up close was unforgettable.”

Ngorongoro Wildlife

Lions in the crater live in several groups, but they are very close together, which gives guests better viewing opportunities. The lion population in the crater has been going down a lot because of disease outbreaks, even though there is a lot of prey.

Ngorongoro Wildlife

Lions and other predators like hyenas, cheetahs, and leopards are supported by the abundance of herbivores in the Ngorongoro Crater. This maintains the equilibrium between predators and prey and shows and demonstrates the effectiveness of the ecosystem.

Apart from wild animals, the crater is also rich in birdlife. Flamingos and crowned cranes are among the 500 bird species found in the crater. Thousands of lesser flamingos and a few larger flamingos call Lake Magadi home. Crowned cranes live on grasslands and wetlands. The crater also hosts seasonal migrant birds.

Ngorongoro Crater Safari is part of what many people think is the best Tour Safari Tanzania when paired with a Serengeti Safari. They are easily accessible to each other because they are both in the Northern circuit and in proximity to each other. Transportation between the two parks can be by road or air.

A minimum of 7-10 days safari is suggested to deeply explore both the Ngorongoro Crater and the Serengeti. The cost of the safari can vary depending on the season and accommodation standards. Make a booking several months before the time of your trip.

Cultural Link Of Maasai And History

The coexistence of humans and wildlife in the crater is one of the features of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. The crater is home to the Maasai tribe, a pastoralist community that is semi-nomadic. The Maasai let their livestock graze close to wildlife because they view wildlife as part of their community.

Massai Tribe Ngorongoro
Massai Tribe Ngorongoro

A Ngorongoro Crater Safari allows visitors to also understand human evolution by visiting the Olduvai Gorge. The gorge is named after a Maasai word, “oldupaai,” meaning a sisal plant. Dr Louis and Mary Leakey discovered the remains of the earliest man at this archaeological site. Hominid footprints that have been preserved in volcanic rock for over 3 million years can be found at the Laetoli prehistoric site, 45 kilometers south of Olduvai.

The Ngorongoro Conservation Area Authority (NCAA) balances wildlife protection with human habitation. The authority strictly forbids hunting wild animals inside the crater and allows agriculture only in specific areas.

Tanzania Safaris in the crater include trips with the purpose of cultural tourism for tourists who are interested in cultural heritage. Guests get to visit the Maasai communities, learn their culture and participate in their traditional dances. The Maasai act as guides during cultural safaris in the crater.

“The Maasai added soul to the safari”

Ngorongoro Crater Safari Packages crafted by African Scenic Safaris allow you to explore the wildlife encounters and learn the Maasai culture in a budget-friendly manner. Our packages include costs incurred during the crater safari.

Planning Your Crater Safari

When planning for Tanzania Safari Tour, especially the crater safari, one should be readily aware of the crater’s entry fees, best times to visit, and ideal safari durations. Knowing these would determine the Tanzania Safari Cost.

Best times to visit the crater

Guests can visit the crater year-round, but we recommend specific seasons for a crater safari. If you want to have an unforgettable experience of the crater, you should consider visiting during the dry season, from June to October. It is the best time to have good sightings of wild animals as they congregate in the permanent water sources

The dry season is the most crowded time of the year in the crater; those preferring lesser crowds should consider visiting during the shoulder season. The vegetation is lush and green, providing guests with a beautiful view of the crater.

Ideal safari duration

Exploring the crater within a single day is possible, and an early morning safari would do. Even though spotting the Big Five in a single day is guaranteed, guests are advised to spend more days in the crater. A trip of 6 to 7 days allows them to witness more animals and discover more about the crater.

“Arrive early for golden light and fewer crowds”

Proper planning for a Crater Safari involves knowing what to bring on a Tanzania Safari. Please consider the following items:

Clothes to pack

When packing clothes, you have to consider different times of the day. Tanzania’s mornings and evenings feel cold, so dress in layers and wear light clothes during the day. Pack long-sleeved shirts, pants, or pajamas to protect yourself from mosquito bites at night.

Avoid packing bright clothes because they will attract bugs; instead, pack neutral-colored clothes. If you are travelling during the rainy season, you should not forget a raincoat.

Travel documents

Several essential documents shouldn’t be lacking on your arrival. These include a valid passport, visa, and vaccination certificates. You can get a visa for Tanzania through the country’s electronic visa system. Guests coming from countries where yellow fever is a risk should present their vaccination certificate on arrival.

Medications

To reduce the chance of contracting malaria, consider carrying insect repellants and anti-malarial medications. Remember to pack painkillers and any other prescribed medications you may be taking. Pack sun protection to prevent sunburn, as it is very sunny in Tanzania.

Electronic devices

Bring a camera for capturing the incredible moments and binoculars to help you view animals at a distance clearly. Carrying a charger and power banks would ensure that your electronic devices do not die while on the crater safari.

For more packing tips, check out our Safari Packing List to ensure that fully prepared for an amazing Tour Safari Tanzania.

For 15 seasons, our experts have been keeping tabs on the Great Migration, and we can assure you that your time with us on your Serengeti Safari will be an unforgettable moment.

This guide will show you the best routes, seasons, and tips on how to experience the Great Migration. Here’s what you need for a Serengeti Safari Tanzania.

Understanding The Great Migration

Every year, over a million wildebeests, accompanied by hundreds of thousands of gazelles and zebras, migrate from Serengeti National Park in Tanzania to Maasai Mara in Kenya; this is the Great Migration. It is a survival movement where they move in search of food and water.

Great Migration Serengeti Map

It is named as one of Africa’s seven natural wonders for being the largest migration of animals, covering approximately a distance of 1200 miles. During the movement, death can occur; predators like crocodiles, during river crossings, and lions stick around to hunt for prey. But that isn’t the end for the wildebeests’ existence because rebirth eventually takes place.

“The drama of the Mara River crossing is unmatched”

A lot of people go on an African Safari Tanzania just to witness the Great Migration in the Serengeti. Communicate with our experts to help you plan for a Serengeti Safari to witness the Great Migration.

Best Time And Places To Witness The Great Migration

The Northern Serengeti differs from the Central Serengeti in terms of landscape and wildlife viewing. The Central Serengeti provides a good view of a variety of wildlife and the migration, but the Northern Serengeti provides an even a much better view of the migration. Even though the migration is an all-year cycle, there are the best times to see this wonderful moment while on a Serengeti Safari

Serengeti Wildebeest Migration
Serengeti Wildebeest Migration

The cycle of the Great Migration:

  • January – March: This is the calving season; wildebeests give birth to around 300,000 calves. The landscape is covered by green pastures due to the end of the rain around this time; this ensures the availability of food to the calves born. Wildebeests graze around the southern part of the Serengeti in Tanzania.
  • July- September: Grass has dried; wildebeests start to move to the northern part of Serengeti to follow the rains starting in Maasai Mara. They cross the Mara River on the Tanzania border to the Maasai Mara in Kenya. Apart from lions and other land habitat predators, crocodiles are another threatening predator during the river crossings.
  • October – November:  It starts to rain back in Tanzania; wildebeests move back to the Serengeti to follow the grass.

Wildlife Beyond The Migration

Apart from the Great Migration, the Serengeti National Park is known for its immense wildlife population. It has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1979 following its conservation of endangered species like black rhinoceros, elephants, wild dogs, cheetahs, and serval cats. It also has over 500 species of birds that migrate from the Serengeti with the seasons.

Big Five Safaris In Tanzania
Big Five Safaris In Tanzania

With over 2 million herbivores, the park has the largest occurrences of predator-prey interactions. This biological diversity balances the ecosystem of the area. It holds the first position in having the largest population of lions (4000) and leopards (1000) in Africa.

Major predators like lions, leopards, and cheetahs have a color or print that matches the grasslands. This helps them to hide from the migrating wildebeests before attacking them. Crocodiles hunt by hiding in water and only strike when the wildebeests and other herbivores cross a river. They tear their prey by rolling in water.

“The migration attracts everything from hyenas to eagles”

Eagles are large birds that can kill prey much larger than their own size. The size of wildebeests does not stop eagles from preying on them. On the other hand, hyenas feed on what major predators leave behind.

All these dramatic moments, from the birth of wildebeests to the predator-prey interactions during the river crossing, call for photography opportunities.

It’s not too late to book a Safari Tanzania. The Great Serengeti awaits you.

Tanzania Travel Trends 2025 – Best Safari Packages & Planning Tips

A safari holiday in Tanzania is like watching a story about nature, culture, and beauty that will never get old. For years, tourists have flocked to locations like the golden grasslands of the Serengeti and the volcanic caldera of Ngorongoro Crater. But, you can sense a shift in the wave in Tanzania Travel Trends in 2025. Even the way people travel here is also shifting.

All our Tanzania Safari Packages are designed keeping an eco-conscious, personal, and exciting approach. Today, the people who travel want more than just seeing animals. They desire genuine experiences that last a lifetime in their minds.

So, what does this mean for your next Safari Tour in Tanzania? Let’s look at the top travel trends in accordance with the packages available and planning tips that make them happen.

Eco-conscious and Sustainable Tourism

Adapting to eco-friendly tourism is a travel trend that has garnered significant attention from the general public. This is true irrespective of where you are travelling.

Sustainable Tourism Tanzania
Sustainable Tourism Tanzania

When travellers visit Tanzania, they don’t just want to view animals.  They also want to know that their presence is beneficial for the trip, as it protects wildlife and helps local communities.

  • Lodges in Tanzania’s national parks, such as the Serengeti and Tarangire, are switching from fossil fuels to renewable energy.
  • There are no single-use plastics permitted, and the lodges have initiatives to help them cut down on their carbon footprints.
  • Most tour companies these days aim to design Tanzania Safaris that minimise harm to the ecosystem. They achieve this by focusing on eco-lodges, engaging people in the community, and implementing conservation projects.
  • The Tanzania National Parks (TANAPA) website says that the money you pay to get into the parks goes straight to maintaining the parks’ cleanliness and conserving the wildlife. These charges are included in your Tanzania Safari Package.

So, if you choose a firm that is honest, like us, your safari will not only provide you with memories but also leave a lasting legacy for future generations.

Sample Tanzania Safari Packages

The 12-Day Family Safari in Tanzania is one of our tours that promotes ethical travel. There are regular game drives, community-focused activities, and a four-day stay in Zanzibar at the end. Families learn about animals and help the community at the same time. This vacation is the right mix of fun and healthy for the environment.

Want to know how travel really makes a difference? Book one of our safari packages and experience how tourism can give more than it takes.

Adventures that aren’t on the beaten path

Travellers have always known that the Serengeti and Kilimanjaro are famous. But, as tourism is advancing, more people are going to other places in 2025 that are off the beaten path. People are noticing lesser-known Tanzania Safari Destinations as they are unique and have natural beauty.

Think of walking with chimpanzees in the Mahale Mountains, the shore of Lake Natron with flamingos, or the wild Southern circuit, Ruaha National Park, and Nyerere National Park.

These kinds of safaris will see you with a lot fewer people, so you might spend hours with animals and not see any other safari vehicle.

This kind of travel trend has taken the limelight following the COVID pandemic, when people wanted to go to calmer spaces. Now, you can see how people are developing Tanzania Safari Tours that put a great emphasis on space, isolation, and getting to know the wild places better.

Did you know?

TANAPA regards Ruaha as Tanzania’s biggest national park. It comprises an area of more than 20,226 sq.km. Though very few people visit this park, it has a lot of different flora and fauna, not found anywhere else.

For Example, our 13-Day Best of Southern Tanzania Safari transports people to the southern parks that are hard to reach. In the national parks of Selous, Ruaha, Mikumi, and Udzungwa, you may embark on walking safaris, river trips, and sleep under the stars. Get ready to see the outdoors with very few people around and an endless number of things to find.

Want to go beyond the conventional northern safari route? Plan your Southern Tanzania Safari and discover places that most tourists never get to see.

Immersive cultural Experiences

People who love to travel in 2025 don’t want to spend their time just seeing the animals. They desire to go deep and understand tales, build relationships, and gain a deep understanding of cultures that define the place.

  • Tanzania has more than 120 ethnic groups. It is one of the best places in Africa to learn about all the cultures.
  • Tourists on a Tanzania Safari love to visit Maasai herders in their settlements or learn about Swahili culture along the coast of Zanzibar.
  • These interactions are fundamental and not contrived acts. They are honest conversations that help communities.

National Geographic says that cultural tourism is one of the fastest-growing industries in Africa. People want to understand the culture and the traditional way of living of the people of these ethnic tribes.

One fine example that is a combination of both cultural and natural experiences is our Tanzania Honeymoon Safari. This vacation incorporates cultural and natural experiences. Couples might have private dinners in the woods, but they can also meet Maasai elders or go on spice tours in Zanzibar.

Do you want to learn about other cultures to make your safari more fun? You can look at our unique Tanzania safari packages.

Luxury Safaris Reimagined

The definition of luxury safaris has also changed in 2025. Earlier, it used to be about plush accommodations, pools, and champagne. Now, it’s more about unique and customised experiences.

You can imagine going on hot air balloon excursions on our Tanzania Luxury Safaris. There are isolated tented resorts built to fit along with nature, or custom itineraries made only for you.

WWF has recently defined sustainable luxury as an essential aspect of conservation tourism. Travellers now have to be responsible by helping protect ecosystems by staying in high-end lodges equipped with conservation measures.

For example, we have our 8-Day Tanzania Classic Safari, which takes you to Tarangire, Serengeti, Ngorongoro, and Lake Manyara. You’ll stay in well-chosen hotels and camps. It combines the best parts of a typical safari with comfort, privacy, and real guidance.

Ask our experts about private guides and accommodations where you can experience luxury at its best. This way, you can understand what being on a Tanzania Luxury Safari means.

The Bottom Line for 2025 Tanzania Safari Packages

This is the year that Tanzania Safaris seem more planned. The tale you tell when you go home is shaped by the choices you make, such as where you stay, how fast you travel, and what you support.

It is poetically known as Africa’s Garden of Eden for its large number of wildlife, and the phenomenal co-existence of the Maasai tribe and wildlife within its walls. A Ngorongoro Crater Safari comes with a lot of amazing cultural experiences.
  • Tarangire National Park boasts huge elephant herds and is home to the Big Five animals. Its landscape is dominated by giant baobab trees towering over the park. The baobab trees provide food and shelter to the wildlife.

Planning The Best Tanzania Safari Route.

Tanzania has four distinct circuits: the Northern, Southern, East, and West Circuits. Despite each circuit having unique wildlife encounters, the Northern and Southern circuits are the most popular.

Tanzania Safari Packages
Tanzania Safari Packages

Northern Circuit

Its ease of access and high density of wildlife provide a perfect safari destination for first-time visitors. The northern part of Tanzania hosts the following National Parks:

  1. Serengeti National Park: features the famous Great Migration and beautiful savannahs.
  2. Ngorongoro National Park: a UNESCO World Heritage site and the largest crater in the world that hosts wildlife within its walls.
  3. Tarangire National Park: On a Tarangire Safari, you can frequently spot the Big Five, and old giant baobab trees dominate the park.
  4. Lake Manyara National Park: renowned for its underground water forest, tree-climbing lions, and hot water springs.
  5. Arusha National Park: It has the largest population of giraffes in the world, and visitors get to see the beautiful scenery of Mount Meru, known to be one of the great hiking spots

Activities to do on the Northern circuit: hot air balloons, game drives, walking safaris, and photography safari

An average stay of 6-10 days is enough to go on a safari on the Northern Circuit. The best time to visit is the Dry season, which takes place from June to October.

Southern Circuit

It is less crowded and remote, unlike the Northern circuit, making it ideal for seasonal travelers. The southern part of Tanzania features the following National Parks:

  1. Nyerere National Park: It was previously known as Selous Game Reserve, a protected area that serves as a haven to endangered and rare species.
  2. Ruaha National Park: It has an unusual combination of animals that cannot be found in any of Tanzania’s other National Parks.
  3. Mikumi National Park: it has less traffic of visitors and a more affordable safari cost compared to other parks.

Activities to do on the Southern circuit: boat safaris, hunting, walking safaris, and game drives.

To experience its untamed beauty, you should plan to stay for 10–14 days. This is because of the Parks’ vast size and distance from each other.

Wildlife And The Seasons

What to Pack For a Serengeti Safari in Tanzania?

Imagine, you’re on a Tanzania Safari across the endless Serengeti plains and you get to see a lion climbing a tree, but you can’t see clearly, so you reach for your bag and ooh no, you forgot a very important thing, Binoculars!

But the truth is, you didn’t forget to pack it; it’s just that it wasn’t on your mind or on your Serengeti Safari Packing List.  How does it feel to not be able to see clearly with your own two eyes? Bad, but hey, the good thing, you’re just imagining this. It’s not real.

Tanzania Travel Advice

Lucky you, because African Scenic Safaris, your number one tour operator in the country, is here to remind you not to forget your binoculars! In this article, we will explore the essential Tanzania Safari Packing List tips, clothing, gear, health & safety items, and pro advice from African Scenic Safaris guides.

When I’m always in a Serengeti Safari, having a good camera and a hat saved our trip — small things matter big in this wild environment. You are never sure what moment might happen, so I keep my camera close for the moments that I know will be memorable, and you know to brag a little when I get back home.

“We always recommend neutral colors like khaki and olive to blend in and keep cool. It’s important to note that army camouflage attire is strictly banned in Tanzania, so be aware to stay out of trouble, consider this.”

Clothing Essentials for the Serengeti

One of the most important items on your packing list is Clothes, here we don’t mean the whole wardrobe, but a few little pieces that perhaps with our guidance could make a Safari Statement!

Ever wondered what is the Best Time to See the Great Migration in the Serengeti? Here is a full detailed guide on what is special during those times.

What to Wear

The main objective of including clothes on your Tanzania Safari Packing List is comfort; you don’t want to regret not carrying suitable clothes and colors just because you weren’t aware of it. That’s why we have prepared these tips just for you.

  • You should include lightweight, breathable fabrics like cotton or moisture-wicking materials.
  • Add some neutral colors such as khaki, beige, and olive since they help you blend with the surrounding environment, important for wildlife viewing and also for your safety.

So, make sure you pack accordingly if you want to enjoy the moment. Don’t forget to carry long-sleeve shirts and pants since they will cover you against UV rays, mosquitoes, and other insects when you’re in the wilderness, especially at nighttime.

For more comfort, you can layer your outfits to help you adapt to different weather conditions. Wear a breathable base layer, add a long-sleeved shirt, and top it off with a lightweight jacket or fleece. This approach ensures you’re prepared for cool mornings, hot afternoons, and chilly evenings.

Seasonal Packing Tips

There are two seasons that take place during a Safari In Tanzania, the Wet and Dry seasons.

  • The Dry Season occurs from June to October, and you’ll experience very cool, dry weather. Vegetation is less dense, and in most areas the temperature is low during this season.
  • In this season, you must carry lightweight clothes, easy-breathing fabrics such as cotton shorts and T-shirts, since the weather is cool.
  • In Tanzania, the wet season runs from November to May. At this time, there’s hot weather and humidity, and we also have frequent short rains “vuli”.
  • If you’re planning to visit during this season, it’s better if you carry some raincoats and boots, long-sleeved pants and shirts, and jackets to protect from the chilly weather.

After knowing the season, you should be very mindful of what you pack depending on the season you’re planning to visit the Serengeti National Park.

You could tell how respected he was among the other guides, as the other guides were constantly asking where to go to see animals. We not only saw the big 5, but babies of all of them as well. Manny knew every animal, every bird, every question we asked. Great time of year to visit; rain was generally just at night if at all, mosquitoes were almost nonexistent, and less crowded, so we could get up close to many animals. Great family trip!!”
