Safety Record

Navigating the towering heights of a 19,341-foot is no walk in the park. Ensuring your safety amidst such challenging conditions is essential.

Hence, it’s crucial to pick a Kilimanjaro Tour Operator that boasts an impeccable safety record, not just in terms of summit success but also for their protective measures and attentiveness.

  • They should understand the risks of altitude sickness, which is a primary reason for summit failures. Ensure the operator has efficient acclimatization processes in place.
  • A credible operator will have clear-cut safety protocols, including prompt emergency response strategies.
  • Lastly, you shouldn’t hear stories of lost clients or unattended trekkers from the tour operator. Choose a company known for its responsibility and vigilance.
Worth Knowing: We pride ourselves on our robust safety standards. Our experienced guides have occasionally stepped in to assist lost trekkers from other companies.

Group Size

The dynamics of your Kilimanjaro Climb can significantly change based on group size, impacting both safety and the overall trekking experience. So, it’s crucial to consider the number of trekkers accompanying you.

  • Larger crowds, with numbers exceeding twelve, can make it easier for individuals to lose their way.
  • Managing a smaller group ensures every member receives adequate attention, decreasing risks.
  • Smaller groups can also lead to a more personalized and intimate trekking experience.

We always emphasize safety and quality of experience. That’s why we prefer smaller groups, ensuring everyone gets the attention they need. When choosing your Kilimanjaro Tour Operator, consider group size a pivotal factor for a safer, more enjoyable ascent.

Equipment

Ensuring a successful and comfortable ascent on Mount Kilimanjaro significantly depends on the quality of equipment in use. The tools and gear you rely on must be top-notch for an optimal Mount Kilimanjaro Climbing experience.

  • Beware of operators who save money by acquiring second-hand or substandard equipment.
  • Tents and gear should withstand the varied weather conditions, from rain to strong winds.
  • Quality tents, sleeping bags, and Climbing Kilimanjaro essentials should be provided or available for rent.
  • Advanced gear, like oxygen tanks and hyperbaric chambers, can be an emergency lifesaver. Check out if your Kilimanjaro Tour Operator is equipped with them or not.

Entrusting a company that invests in maintaining and updating its equipment is essential. After all, the equipment can make or break your experience during your Kilimanjaro Trek. Always prioritize quality and reputation over economical deals.

Reviews and Reputation

When selecting a Kilimanjaro Tour Operator, digging into the company’s reputation and the experiences of past clients is invaluable. Reviews can provide a genuine snapshot of what to anticipate during your adventure.

  • Remember,it’s not about how many reviews but how genuine they are. Beware of artificially inflated numbers.
  • Rely on well-regarded platforms for genuine feedback.
Scenic's Insight: Wetake pride in our genuine Trip Advisor reviews. With over 600+ authentic reviews from our esteemed clients, our commitment to excellence is evident. When considering Mount Kilimanjaro Climbing Tours, it's vital to prioritize genuine testimonials over mere numbers.

Pricing Considerations

Choosing the Best Kilimanjaro Tour Operator for your adventure often starts with understanding pricing structures. While tempting, the lowest price might not guarantee the best experience.

Always prioritize safety, experience, and a solid reputation. Here are different operator tiers from which you can choose depending on your Kilimanjaro Climb Cost.

  • Luxury Operators: Ideal for those valuing comfort over adventure. Expect top-tier services like matching tents and uniforms. However, the high advertising costs might inflate the price.
  • Mid-Range Operators: The preferred choice for many are these mid-range operators. They offer commendable services minus the premium price tag.
  • Budget Operators: They might offer attractive prices, but often at the cost of equipment quality, food, and safety. Notably, many aren’t affiliated with Kilimanjaro Porters Assistance Project (KPAP) or Leave No Trace.

Remember, a memorable Kilimanjaro experience is an investment. It’s crucial to balance affordability and the service quality you deserve.

Where Do I Sleep On Kilimanjaro?

If you’re gearing up for an adventure on Mount Kilimanjaro, you might wonder about the overnight arrangements. Questions like, where will you rest after a tiring day of climbing, might pop into your mind. Simply put, depending on the trail, it’s either Kilimanjaro Camps or Kilimanjaro Tents.

Apart from that, the type of Kilimanjaro Climbing Packages will also play a role in determining the amenities you are provided with sleeping accommodations. Ready to dive into the details? Let’s explore!

Kilimanjaro Tents- Your Portable Accommodation On The Mountain

The majority of Mt Kilimanjaro Routes utilize tents for climbers to sleep in. These tents are specifically designed to protect you from the unpredictable mountain weather.

  • Equipped with waterproof features, these Kilimanjaro Tents ensure a cozy night’s sleep, even in damp environments.
  • Moreover, the tents are built to keep moisture away from the sleeping area and are spacious enough to store all your equipment securely.

Furthermore, Kilimanjaro Tents come with screens over windows, enabling climbers to enjoy the cool mountain breeze without the interference of insects.

Also, smaller tents are available for those who prefer solitude or are travelling alone, ensuring the same level of comfort and security.

Kilimanjaro Tents
Kilimanjaro Tents

Marangu Route: The Exception To Tents

Unlike other Mt Kilimanjaro Routes, the Marangu Route, known as the Coca-Cola, offers a different sleeping arrangement.

This historic route is distinct because it provides hut accommodation for climbers instead of the usual Mount Kilimanjaro Tents.

  • These huts, distributed across designated Kilimanjaro Campsites, vary in capacity.
  • For instance, the Mandara and Kibo Huts offer 60 bunk beds each, while the Horombo Hut boasts 120.
  • If you’re journeying via the Marangu Route, your climbing package typically covers mattresses and pillows. However, carrying or renting a sleeping bag remains essential.
Important Tip: Being one of the famous Mount Kilimanjaro Routes, the Marangu Route can get crowded and noisy. Therefore, planning your climb on an off-peak day or having earplugs might be beneficial.

Alternative Accommodations: The Old Ways

Before the Kilimanjaro Camps and huts became the norm, climbers found shelter in caves. These natural sanctuaries are a demonstration of the mountain’s rich climbing history. However, present-day regulations prohibit the use of these caves for overnight stays.

Essential Facilities at Kilimanjaro Campsites

Regardless of your chosen route, certain facilities remain consistent across Kilimanjaro Campsites. Wooden toilets and ranger’s huts are frequently found.

It’s crucial to note that while many Kilimanjaro Camps have names suggesting huts, most are not huts.

These structures hosted climbers in the past, but as the demand for Kilimanjaro Trek increased, they evolved into campsites.

It’s vital to remember that the journey up Kilimanjaro isn’t just about reaching the peak; it’s also about enjoying the journey and soaking in the unique experiences.

Dining Amidst the Clouds

With African Scenic Safaris at your service, you don’t have to compromise on your meals even at thousands of feet above sea level.

  • Each Kilimanjaro Camp has a dedicated mess tent where climbers can relish freshly prepared dishes.
  • These mess tents are large tents consist of armchairs and foldable tables.
  • These spacious tents ensure you can enjoy your meals comfortably, irrespective of the weather conditions outside.
  • Furthermore, every Kilimanjaro Tour has an allotted cook. They prepare delicious and nutritious meals for you, thus making your Mount Kilimanjaro Climbing Tours experience all the more special.

Relishing these hearty meals fuels your body and uplifts your spirit for the adventure ahead.

Passion That Drives Us

At African Scenic Safaris, our hearts beat with a burning passion for social sustainability, driving us to embark on a mission that holds profound meaning to us. We have set our focus on enhancing the working conditions of the porters on the majestic Mount Kilimanjaro, and it is a cause that stirs our very souls.

  • The mistreatment and exploitation endured by these hardworking crew members weighs heavily on our hearts.
  • Witnessing their struggles and the inequality they face, where their earnings fall short of even the minimum wage mandated by the Kilimanjaro National Park Authority, fuels our determination to create lasting change.
  • It pains us to know that these devoted porters, who play an integral role in the success of every climb, are often denied basic necessities.
  • This includes being deprived of sufficient meals and compelled to carry excessive cargo beyond the regulated limits.

Our Mount Kilimanjaro Climbing crew is not just a team; they are cherished members of our local community, close companions, and friends. We stand united in our commitment to eradicate these injustices from the root, for they deserve dignity, fair treatment, and respect.

Travelife Certified
Travelife Certified

This certification is a testament to our dedication to sustainability and ethical travel practices. Through the implementation of over 200 sustainability criteria, which touch upon various aspects such as:

  • Internal Policies
  • Office Management
  • Product Range

Together, we can create lasting memories while leaving a meaningful and positive footprint on the planet we call home.

What Is A Travelife Certified?

Travelife is a leading management, training, and certification initiative for tour companies that are committed to reaching sustainability. There are two phases that a tour operator has to go through before they are ultimately awarded the Travelife certificate. Here’s a bit more detail on these phases:

Phase 1 – Travel Life Engaged

In this stage, the tour company commits to the initiative and introduces the proper management procedures. An appointed Sustainability Coordinator obtains the personal Travelife Certificate along with the elementary steps. During this ‘engagement’ phase the tour operators are not rewarded yet.

Phase 2 – Travelife Partner

This status enables tour operators to communicate their sustainability commitment and achievements with the support of the Travelife logo. Now, they are qualified to work step-by-step toward the final stage.

Phase 3 – Travelife Certified

In the third phase, the tour operator’s adherence to the international Travelife Certified standard is evaluated by an independent auditor based on an on-site assessment.

The Travelife Partner Standard is also in line with the Global Tourism Council Industry Criteria and is formally recognized by the Global Sustainable Tourism Council.

We at African Scenic Safaris have successfully completed the third phase, which has resulted in us being awarded the Travelife Certified Status.

What It Takes To Be TRAVELIFE CERTIFIED?

At African Scenic Safaris, achieving the esteemed Travelife certification is not just a milestone but a reflection of our commitment to sustainability and ethical practices to be eligible for this certification, we’ve implemented a broad range of sustainability measures including the following:

Environmental Conservation – We understand the significance of safeguarding the environment for future generations. To minimize our ecological footprint, we’ve adopted eco-friendly practices like reducing energy consumption and promoting the conservation of natural resources.

Community Empowerment – Supporting local communities is at the heart of our beliefs. We actively engage and collaborate with local communities, providing opportunities for economic empowerment and ad cultural exchange.

Wildlife Protection – Our Tanzania Safari experiences prioritize ethical wildlife encounters and respect for animal habitats, ensuring that our guests can appreciate the natural beauty of Tanzania without causing harm to its diverse fauna.

Customer Education – We believe that informed travelers can make a significant difference. Through transparent and responsible communication, we educate our guests about the local culture, wildlife, and environment. This empowers them to make conscious choices that positively impact the destinations they visit.

Continuous Improvement – Sustainability is a journey, and we are dedicated to ongoing improvement. We regularly review and assess our practices to identify areas where we can make further positive changes. Our goal is to raise the bar in sustainable travel continually.

When you opt for Tanzania Safari Packages with African Scenic Safaris, you are not just exploring the wonders of Tanzania but actively contributing to the conservation of its natural and cultural heritage. Together, let us journey responsibly and create lasting memories with a positive impact.
